Across many communities, children especially girls face immense challenges that threaten their safety, education, and future. Harmful cultural practices like FGM and child marriages persist despite legal prohibitions, driven by deep-seated traditions and economic hardships. Many children are denied access to education, while others suffer severe physical and emotional trauma. Additionally, a lack of awareness within communities perpetuates these harmful practices.

At YISOG, we are committed to rescuing, protecting, and empowering these children. Through education, advocacy, nutrition, healthcare, and community engagement, we provide a safe and supportive environment where they can heal, learn, and thrive. Our work is dedicated to creating a future where every child is free from harm and has the opportunity to reach their full potential.

The Problem

  1. Harmful Cultural Practices
Despite the deep and rich Maasai culture, harmful traditions like FGM and child marriage persist due to entrenched beliefs and economic pressures despite being outlawed.
  2. Limited Access to Education
Many children especially girls are denied schooling due to early marriages and societal norms limiting their opportunities for a better future.
  3. Trauma and Health Risks
FGM and child marriages cause severe physical and emotional harm robbing children of their childhood dignity and potential.
  4. Lack of Awareness
Many communities lack knowledge about the legal and health implications of these practices making it difficult to break the cycle of harm.

Our Theory of Change

YISOG’s approach is rooted in the belief that sustainable change begins at the grassroots level. By rescuing at-risk children and addressing the cultural and socio-economic drivers of harmful practices, we aim to create a ripple effect of change within our community. Our three-pronged strategy includes:

Rescue and Protection

We rescue children from harmful cultural practices like FGM and child marriage, providing shelter, safety, and psychosocial support.

Education

We enroll rescued children in schools, ensure retention through consistent support, and facilitate school fees via sponsorship programs.

Nutrition

We run school feeding programs and provide relief food to combat hunger in drought-affected communities.

Health and Well-Being

We promote access to healthcare and offer counseling to support children's emotional and mental well-being.

Advocacy and Awareness

We educate communities on the dangers of FGM and child marriage, promote alternative rites of passage, and lead public awareness campaigns.
